Kinds of hosting services

A hosting solution involves storing and/or sharing given content on a server hosted by a website hosting company. There are various sorts of hosting services used for different ends, so let's have a look at these. In that way, you can pick what you need, depending on whether you'd like to run a weblog, e-mail aliases, or to share files with buddies and associates.

- File hosting: a solution furnished by particular web hosts, which enables you to share huge files. These could be disk images, motion pictures, audio files, archived files, and so on. This service is also known as file storage, and its sole aim is to share files, since it does not support website uploading. The moment the files are uploaded, you will either obtain an accidentally generated download link for each of them, or you will be able to examine an index of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to load .html or .php web site files in your web browser. Free-of-cost file hosting plans are often supported by showing ads by the download links, while a timer forces you to wait for a given interval of time to view them. A single file can be downloaded with limited speed. If you have a paid file storage package, there are no restrictions as to how many files you can upload/download right away, and also there is no restriction with regard to the download speed or the file size.

At present, with the help of the cPanel hosting companies, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more stylish "cloud hosting". This is a completely incorrect interpretation of the real meaning of "cloud hosting". An actual cloud website hosting platform would allot the load between independent hosts of servers in a cluster, which are dedicated to attending miscellaneous webspace hosting services (mail, web space, stats, DNS, databases, web site hosting CP, and so on.) So, the file hosting solution is simply a brand of a disk space hosting solution, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: resembling file hosting; some vendors offer a hosting service for images solely. This hosting type is suitable if you would like to share a large number of pictures with mates or colleagues since the service is mostly free of charge. You will get a randomly generated link for each and every pic or album and you can subsequently share this link. As with the file hosting solution, .html and .php files are not compatible, so the service cannot be utilized for web sites.

- Email hosting: a solution devoted to tackling your electronic mail accounts. Some suppliers offer web space hosting solutions for web sites, but do not offer an e-mail hosting service. If you wish to create an email address with your domain name but do not want to own a site, then the email hosting service is what you need. You can open email address accounts and manage them, but there will be no hosting service for the domains. The email hosting solution involves incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP email servers.

- Video hosting: this service allows you to upload and share video files. You can either share a link to some video clip, or you can embed the video file in your web site that is hosted elsewhere. The benefit of utilizing this method in lieu of uploading the video file in a hosting account is that the video produces a particular amount of central processing unit load, so with a handful of videos and several hundred website viewers, you may have a hard time with your web hosting reserves. Embedding the video clip will permit you to keep as many videos as you would like without bothering about system reserves.

- Website hosting: this is the service that you need if you wish to have a website. To some degree, it involves all of the aforementioned hosting varieties since, along with your sites, you can also host images and files, you can set up databases and electronic mail accounts, upload video files, and so on. At Thexyz Inc, for example, you can have a gaze at web hosting and dedicated web hosting packages that enable you to get all of the aforementioned services in one single place. There may be limits depending on the form of hosting service that you've settled on - a free hosting account, a paid shared hosting package, a VPS or a dedicated server. Based on that, your web hosting plan may be better or worse juxtaposed to the standard e-mail/file/video/image hosting plans that are meant for specific web content only.
